History
Resgate is a therapeutic community that was founded in 1996 on the initiative of José Antunes de Mello and Laércio Junqueira, who met drug addicted people to discuss their problems in their houses. At these meetings, individuals seeking for help said they had made unsuccessful attempts at outpatient treatment or other treatment. Due to this, José Antunes de Mello and Laércio Junqueira established a farm where people can get treatment 24 hours a day. In the beginning, the farm was in bad shape, but started to gather the first people. After a while, some evangelical people of various denominations decided to institutionalize the organization.

On May 27 in 1999 Resgate was formed. With the dedication and donations of volunteers and families of former attendees, several improvements had been done. For instance: the extension of the house, building a chapel and another unit for residents who received treatment but had nowhere to live. In 2007, Resgate made some changes in their terms, changed the board, created a therapeutic program and reformed the project guided by the ANVISA Resolution RDC. 29 in order to win the philanthropic recognition. Currently, the Project Resgate is an institution of an organized civil society. The aim is to develop a network that cares about alcohol and other drugs. Since its foundation Resgate has hosted thousands of patients, including their family members in attendance.
