Treatment

How does the treatment work

In a community of understanding and peace, the residents abstain from any kind of drugs, while receiving support and guidance of professionals to make fundamental changes in their behavior. The model adopted is based on the RDC-29 ANVISA, in which the main methods are the interaction between peers, disease awareness of addiction and emotional restructuring. In addition to taking care of daily activities on the farm, a variety of further activities are offered, such as: therapeutic groups, individual psychological care, crafts awareness lectures of the disease.

Duration of the treatment

The duration of the treatment is nine months. The residents discuss their day-to-day experience in the therapeutic community (TC), doing the activities offered. Also, a rehabilitation process is started, which consists of a gradual shutdown through outputs with increasing durations, in which patients seek to work on difficulties in their families as well as their social reintegration..

Phase 1: Adaptation to the Environment and Rapprochement with Family

Consistent with the Single Service Plan (PAS), the residents participate in activities facilitating the adaptation to the environment and to the Therapeutic Program. Examples for that are the morning meetings, inclusive practical activities, physical activities, group activities, psychological treatment provision, etc. At the same time, in order to promote interpersonal relationships, the patients are instructed to avoid the use of inappropriate words and to live in harmony. The process of rapprochement with the family is finalized by encouraging family members to constanly visit the farm which leads to a significant improvement of the relationship between the family and the former drug-addict. Also, in the first phase, the patients get connected with the health care network.

Phase 2: Awareness

In the second phase, the residents are encouraged to attend weekly meetings for mutual aid, talks on drug addiction, psychological assistance and events in the community (church, tours, camps etc.). Furthermore, the residents make weekly visits to their families and begin to lay the groundwork for their post-treatment life.

Phase 3: Social Welfare

At this stage, Resgate intensifies the work of relapse prevention and social reintegration. Here, the autonomy and the independence of the individual consolidates, when he increasingly participates in external events such as seminars, courses and visits to the family. In the third stage, among other things, the former drug-addict is encouraged to regularize their documentation, have dental treatment and to seek employment.

At the end of treatment, we expect the residents to be able to stay away from drugs, to keep the biopsychosocial and spiritual balance and return to their families.

By leaving the community, they are invited to participate in the maintenance of sobriety meetings in Resgate. It is considered that, by completing the treatment, the individual recognizes the importance of seeking help.
